My name is Madison Sinclair, and I founded Hold the Ice after observing countless times how the immigration system favors those with money over those without. This type of inequality is not a new sentiment, but after witnessing it happen repeatedly, especially when the stakes are so high, I knew I had to do whatever I could to ensure as many people as possible had the best chance to fight against deportation.

Currently, our legal system does not guarantee legal immigrants the right to a public defender. This means many immigrants, who have the legal right to live in this country, are deported simply because they cannot afford expensive legal fees. Only 37% of all immigrants and 14% of detained immigrants have legal counsel on their side. This is unacceptable, especially considering how significantl having a lawyer can impact the outcome of a case.

As the child of an immigrant, I am committed to ensuring everyone has a fair chance in the legal process and keeping as many families intact as possible.
